  • AST (Airbag Service Tool) – issue with VW airbag module, need help

    Hi,

I’m new to working with AST (Airbag Service Tool) and I’m having an issue with a VW airbag module (details shown in the screenshot).

    Could someone please advise:
    • is this module supported by AST?
    • does it require a different mode or procedure?
Any help would be appreciated, as I’m still learning.

You have made SmartOBD connection and pressed the button in the SmartProg section.
For this to work, you need to unsolder the EEPROM and insert it into the SmartProg adapter.

      Hi,
First of all, thank you very much for your support – your advice helped me a lot and I was able to read the EEPROM successfully using the SmartProg adapter. I also managed to read the same EEPROM using CarProTool as a comparison.
      Now I have two questions:
      1. If I copy (transfer) the EEPROM content from the original airbag module into a used module from a different vehicle, will the VIN be transferred as well? In other words – will the new unit now recognize the VIN from the original vehicle, or will it still detect the old VIN from the donor module?
      2. On the original module (the one I read the EEPROM from), I have two DTCs (errors) that are causing issues – I’ve attached a photo showing the exact fault codes. I would really appreciate some guidance on how to fix or clear them.
I’m still quite new to this field, but I’m learning quickly and have already successfully completed several airbag ECU repairs. This particular one is giving me a bit of a challenge, and I’ve been working on it for several days now, so I would be very grateful for your help and suggestions.

      Thank you again in advance!

These errors mean that the SRS unit or your data is corrupted.
Try to write this data from a working SRS unit.
